CPI State secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao on Saturday wished the eight people trapped in the Srisailam left bank tunnel to come out safely. He said the State government's decision to expedite the completion of the Srisailam tunnel, which has been neglected for the last ten years, was heartening.
“It is learnt that the incident may have occurred due to the negligence of the logical survey officials, who were supposed to inspect the area where the Tunnel Bore Mission (TBM) was located before starting the tunnel work. As the water in the Srisailam reservoir is more than the contour level of the tunnel, it can reach 14 km,” he said.
Stating that the spring water comes at a distance of 19.500 km from the area, he said the accident occurred as the soil in the area was more than granite and rocks and said the spring water should be restricted from coming from the reservoir. He urged the officials to take the advice of engineering experts and complete the works at the earliest. He demanded that oxygen cylinders should be made available inside the tunnel and the work should be carried out while noting that an expert committee should be constituted to probe the incident.
