Medicover Hospital launches Obesity Clinic

Medicover Hospital, Secunderabad launched a dedicated Obesity Clinic to provide comprehensive care for weight-related health issues. The clinic was inaugurated by Hyderabad District Collector Dasari Harichandana. Speaking on the occasion, she said that obesity is rapidly increasing due to unhealthy dietary habits and lack of physical activity in today’s lifestyle, leading to several health complications such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases.

The newly launched Obesity Clinic will offer comprehensive services including BMI assessment, nutritional counselling, hormonal evaluation, exercise guidance, and bariatric surgery whenever required.

Dr. Pawan Addala, Chief Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist & Program Head – Liver and Pancreas Transplant, said, Obesity is not merely excess body weight; it is also a major cause of fatty liver disease, cardiovascular disorders, and gastrointestinal problems. With proper medical supervision and, when necessary, bariatric surgery, long-term solutions can be achieved.

Dr. Madhavi Verpula, Senior Consultant Endocrinologist, stated that obesity affects hormonal balance in the body and can lead to several complications including Type-2 diabetes, thyroid disorders, and sleep apnea. She added that obesity can be managed effectively through personalized diet plans, exercise, and medical management based on individual health conditions.

Obesity is a major contributing factor for health issues such as Type-2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, joint pain, and hormonal disorders. The event was attended by Medical Gastroenterologists Dr. Krishna Gopal Bhandari, Dr. Santosh M. Narayanakar, Dr. Ajay Shesherao Shinde, DMHO Dr. Venkati, Regional Director Dr. Janaki Ram, Center Head Krishnaveni, Medical Superintendent Dr. Prashanth, along with doctors and healthcare experts from the hospital.
