Medicover performs Complex brain surgery

Metro India News | Hyderabad : An 11-month-old child has been discharged in stable condition from Medicover Hospitals, Secunderabad, after neurosurgeons successfully repaired a large aneurysm on a key brain artery while preserving the artery itself. The rare and technically challenging procedure was performed in an infant, where the extremely small blood vessels and limited blood volume significantly increase the complexity of neurosurgery.

The child's age made treatment particularly challenging. After detailed evaluation, the neurosurgical team decided to repair the aneurysm while preserving the parent artery — the normal vessel carrying blood to the surrounding brain — rather than closing it off. The child underwent a craniotomy, a surgical procedure in which an opening is temporarily made in the skull to access the brain. Following surgery, the child was successfully weaned off ventilator support and showed good recovery. After continued monitoring and multidisciplinary care, the infant was discharged in stable condition. Dr. Shighakolli Ramesh, Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon, Medicover Hospitals, Secunderabad mentioned that the outcome was possible because of meticulous planning, microsurgical expertise and close coordination between the neurosurgery, paediatric, anaesthesia and operating-room teams.
