State tourism and culture minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Friday urged Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy to intervene immediately and ensure procurement of Soybean through NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited), as farmers face severe distress due to crop damage caused by unseasonal rains.
During a meeting at the Pen Ganga Guest House in Adilabad, Jupally apprised the Union Minister of the ground situation in the presence of affected farmers. He said discolouration of soybean crops had led to procurement delays, forcing farmers to wait for days at market yards while stocks piled up in villages. "The farmers will get Minimum Support Price only if the Centre initiates procurement without delay", Jupally asserted, appealing for urgent action.
Earlier in the day, the Minister conducted a surprise visit to the Neradigonda market yard, interacted with farmers and assured them of the state government’s full support. He recalled that Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao had already written to the Union Agriculture Ministry and appealed to the Centre to respond positively.
