Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana on Wednesday visited the Pangyo Waste-to-Energy Plant near Seoul, South Korea, as part of his official tour to study advanced urban solutions. The facility, known for its eco-friendly operations, generates electricity by incinerating municipal solid waste at temperatures above 1,000°C, setting a global benchmark in sustainable energy practices.
Minister Narayana inspected the plant’s operations and interacted with South Korean officials, who briefed him on the technology used in power generation and environmental safeguards. He lauded the model, noting that such initiatives could transform waste management in Andhra Pradesh’s municipalities.
The Andhra Pradesh government is already working on establishing six new Waste-to-Energy plants across the state to achieve garbage-free municipalities. “Replicating proven international models like Pangyo will help us address waste disposal challenges while ensuring clean energy generation,” Narayana said.
Prior to his visit to Pangyo, the Minister held discussions with top executives of Kunhwa Engineering and Global Theme Park Resorts & Holdings (GTRH). GTRH, a leader in global tourism and entertainment infrastructure, expressed interest in collaborating with Andhra Pradesh on world-class theme parks and entertainment hubs.
Talks also focused on opportunities in smart city construction and waste-to-energy solutions, with Kunhwa Engineering highlighting its expertise in sustainable urban infrastructure.
Minister Narayana underlined the state’s vision of developing smart, eco-friendly cities while simultaneously promoting tourism and entertainment industries. “Andhra Pradesh is committed to building modern urban ecosystems that balance development with sustainability. Strategic global partnerships like these will pave the way,” he added.
