Telangana MP Dr. Kadiyam Kavya raised pressing concerns in the Lok Sabha regarding the allocation of key coal blocks to Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), a major state-owned enterprise. She urged the Ministry of Coal to act on a July 2024 request from Telangana’s Chief Minister seeking allocation of blocks like Koyagudem III, Sathupalli III, and Sravanapalli PK OC II Dip Side under Sections 11A/17A(2) of the MMDR Act, 1957.
Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy confirmed receipt of the request and acknowledged Telangana’s push for these allocations. Dr. Kavya also questioned the non-operational status of previously auctioned Koyagudem and Sathupalli blocks, which remain unused due to private allottees' failures. She advocated reallocating these to SCCL.
While the Minister noted no current plans for reallocation, he acknowledged SCCL’s willingness to offer a 0.5% higher revenue share than past bidders. He reiterated that coal blocks are allocated through a transparent auction process and encouraged SCCL to participate.
Dr. Kavya emphasized the importance of securing adequate coal reserves for Telangana’s energy needs and SCCL’s operational continuity. Her intervention highlights the need for strategic resource management to ensure long-term regional energy security.
