A large-scale road safety awareness programme was conducted under the supervision of the Mulugu Police as part of the Telangana government’s 99-day action plan and Road Safety Week initiatives on Sunday.
Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Danasari Anasuya Seethakka attended as chief guests along with District Collector TS Diwakar and other public representatives. The programme, titled “Arrive Alive,” began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.
Addressing the gathering, the district SP highlighted the alarming rise in road accidents, stating that around 20 people die daily in the state, nearly 7,500 annually, and about 1.5 lakh across the country. He urged two-wheeler riders to wear helmets and avoid rash driving, stressing that pillion riders must also wear helmets. He cited a recent accident in Medak district to underline the impact on families.
Collector TS Diwakar advised motorists to follow traffic rules strictly and practice defensive driving, especially while overtaking. Minister Seethakka said the government is organizing such programmes to safeguard public lives and emphasized that negligence on roads can endanger entire families.
Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy stressed the importance of seat belts for four-wheeler drivers and cautioned against careless driving, referring to a recent accident in Khammam. Road safety posters were unveiled, helmets distributed, and an eye-checkup medical camp was also inaugurated during the event.a
