Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said Islamabad hoped to host the next round of peace talks very soon. He praised US President Trump for “his extraordinary efforts to pursue peace” in West Asia, saying Pakistan would continue peace efforts.
Trump on Saturday held a phone call with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkiye, Egypt, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain and Pakistan. For Pakistan, Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir was on the call, Sharif said. Sharif, who is on a visit to China, praised Munir, saying, “I greatly appreciate his tireless efforts during the entire process.”
The PM said on X the discussions helped exchange views on the regional situation and ways to advance peace efforts. Munir was in Tehran till Saturday evening for talks with Iran’s leaders to achieve a “conclusive deal” between the US and Iran to bring peace in West Asia. —PTI
