Tragedy struck East Godavari district after a Panchayat Raj Assistant Engineer and his family reportedly jumped into the Godavari River from the Road-cum-Rail Bridge near Rajamahendravaram in the early hours of the day. Three family members remain missing, while a young boy who was also in the group was rescued by local fishermen. The incident involved Nookaraju, 60, a Panchayat Raj AE working in Pithapuram, his wife Meena, 58, their daughter Soujanya, 34, and their grandson. According to preliminary information, the family reached the bridge late at night and entered the river. Fishermen who noticed the incident immediately intervened and managed to rescue the boy.
However, Nookaraju, Meena and Soujanya were swept away by the strong current and remain untraced. Police and local authorities launched search operations soon after receiving information about the incident. NDRF and SDRF personnel, along with local teams, have been involved in an intensive search for the missing persons.
The reason behind the family’s extreme step remains unclear. Nookaraju was reportedly nearing retirement, and investigators are examining the circumstances and possible factors that may have led to the incident. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan expressed deep concern over the incident and directed the district administration to intensify rescue operations on a war footing. He spoke to the Superintendents of Police of East Godavari and Kakinada districts and sought details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Pawan Kalyan directed officials to use NDRF and SDRF resources wherever necessary and ensure that every possible effort was made to trace the missing family members. He also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances that preceded the incident and instructed authorities to take strict legal action if anyone is found responsible.
The Deputy Chief Minister also enquired about the condition of the rescued boy and directed officials to provide him with all necessary medical and psychological support. Appealing to the public, Pawan Kalyan said no problem is without a solution and urged people not to take irreversible decisions under emotional distress or pressure. He advised anyone facing threats, harassment or serious difficulties to immediately approach the police or relevant authorities and seek legal assistance, stressing that every human life is precious.
