Thirty passengers were evacuated after a cruise ship ran aground on a reef in Fiji, according to the vessel’s operator. The MV Fiji Princess, operated by Blue Lagoon Cruises, ran aground on Saturday near Monuriki Island.

The company said initial findings suggest calm conditions at the time of anchoring, but a severe squall later caused the ship’s anchor to drag, leading to the vessel grounding on a nearby reef.

A ferry was deployed early on Sunday, allowing all 30 passengers to safely disembark with their belongings. No injuries were reported. The passengers were transported to Denarau Island. The company said pumpable fuel and other oils onboard had been removed by Monday to reduce environmental risks.
