Renowned actor Akkineni Nagarjuna on Wednesday underscored the enduring power of meaningful work, remarking that while human life is transient, the impact of one’s actions remains permanent. He was speaking at the diamond jubilee celebrations of ANR College in Gudivada, where he inaugurated the newly constructed RUSA building on the campus.
Addressing students, faculty and alumni, Nagarjuna reflected on the legacy of his father, legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR), whose vision, he said, continues to shape generations of students through the institution. “My father did not have the opportunity to pursue formal education, but he deeply understood its value. His lifelong dream was to create opportunities and a brighter future for young students,” Nagarjuna said.
He recalled that as early as 1959, Akkineni Nageswara Rao had extended substantial support to the college by donating ₹1 lakh, a significant contribution at the time, to strengthen educational infrastructure. That gesture, Nagarjuna noted, symbolised ANR’s commitment to education and social upliftment beyond his achievements in cinema.
Emphasising the role of institutions in shaping society, Nagarjuna said educational establishments play a crucial part in nurturing values, discipline and purpose among youth. “What we leave behind through our work defines us far more than how long we live,” he told the gathering, urging students to focus on integrity, perseverance and service.
In a major announcement during the event, Nagarjuna declared that he would donate ₹2 crore towards student scholarships at ANR College. The contribution, he said, is intended to support meritorious and economically disadvantaged students, enabling them to pursue higher education without financial constraints.
College authorities and guests welcomed the announcement with applause, describing it as a significant boost to the institution’s efforts to expand access to quality education. The diamond jubilee celebrations marked six decades of ANR College’s journey in higher education, highlighting its role in producing professionals across various fields and continuing the philanthropic vision of its founder.
