PIO doc sentenced to 14 yrs in US for opiod conspiracies

An Indian-origin doctor has been sentenced to 168 months in prison for "orchestrating conspiracies to commit health care fraud, wire fraud, and unlawful distribution" of controlled substances and money-laundering related offenses, US Department of Justice has said. Neil K Anand, 48, of Bensalem, Pennsylvania, was also ordered to pay over USD 2 mn in restitution and over USD 2 mn in forfeiture, the Department of Justice said.

Anand was convicted in April year for conspiring to submit false and fraudulent claims to Medicare, health plans provided by US Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Independence Blue Cross (IBC) and Anthem for 'Goody Bags' of medically unnecessary prescription medications.

Indian arrested in US for multi-vehicle crash

An Indian national, who had arrived in the US illegally, has been arrested for causing a multi-vehicle crash while driving a truck in California last year that critically injured a five-year old child and left her with life-altering injuries.

The US immigration arrested Partap Singh last month and he will remain in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings. In June 2024, Singh caused a multi-car pileup while driving a truck.
