Probe intensifies into Banswada C-section complications

The incident came to light after five of the 10 pregnant women who underwent Caesarean deliveries on July 11 and 12 developed severe post-operative complications

Metro India News | NIZAMABAD : The State government has intensified its inquiry into the complications reported after Caesarean section surgeries at the 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital in Banswada, where five new mothers fell critically ill earlier this month. An official inquiry committee visited the hospital to examine various aspects of the facility as part of the ongoing investigation. Narender Reddy, Executive Engineer of the Telangana Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC) and a member of the committee, inspected the operation theatre, labour room, water supply tank and the structural condition of the hospital building.

Hospital Superintendent Dr. Vijaya Bhaskar briefed the committee on the sequence of events leading to the incident. Assistant Engineer Sagar Reddy also participated in the inspection. Officials said the committee is collecting technical and medical evidence before submitting a detailed report to the State government. The incident came to light after five of the 10 pregnant women who underwent Caesarean deliveries on July 11 and 12 developed severe post-operative complications. The women reportedly suffered from low platelet counts, urinary complications and kidney-related health issues soon after the surgeries.

Following the deterioration in their condition, all five women were shifted to the Government General Hospital in Nizamabad for advanced treatment. Of them, three patients whose condition remained critical were later referred to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad for specialised care. As a precautionary measure, hospital authorities have temporarily suspended all Caesarean procedures at the Banswada hospital until the exact cause of the complications is identified. Samples of medicines, surgical materials and other items used during the operations have been collected and sent to laboratories for detailed analysis. The findings of the inquiry and laboratory reports are expected to determine the reason behind the medical complications and guide further action.
