Hyderabad: Surgeons at BirthRight by Rainbow Hospitals, Nanakramguda, successfully removed 11 uterine fibroids weighing 2.7 kg from a 26-year-old woman using advanced laparoscopic techniques, preserving her uterus and future fertility.

Three fibroids were as large as a muskmelon, while the remaining were similar in size to sweet limes. The patient’s uterus had expanded to the size of an eight-month pregnancy, making the surgery highly complex. Although other hospitals recommended open surgery, Dr. Manasa Badveli, Senior Consultant Gynaecologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon, completed the procedure minimally invasively.

Uterine fibroids commonly affect women of reproductive age, causing heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, and infertility. The patient had been experiencing severe symptoms that affected her quality of life. Detailed pre-operative planning using high-resolution MRI allowed precise mapping of the fibroids, minimized surgical risks, and ensured preservation of uterine integrity.

The patient recovered well and was discharged in stable condition. Laparoscopic surgery offers multiple benefits, including less post-operative pain, faster recovery, minimal scarring, and lower risk of complications such as infection, blood loss, and adhesions.
