A Sadbhavana March was organized from Buddhanagar in SR Nagar to the Umesh Chandra statue on Thursday to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi, under the leadership of TPCC Vice-President and Sanathnagar Assembly Constituency Congress In-charge Dr Kota Neelima. Secunderabad DCC President Deepak John attended the program as the chief guest. The program began with the leaders paying floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi’s statue.
Dr Kota Neelima said Rajiv Gandhi’s decision to reduce the voting age from 21 to 18 was a landmark step that significantly expanded youth participation in Indian democracy, she said. His emphasis on promoting computers, telecommunications had helped lay the foundations for India’s emergence as a global technology hub, she added. Dr Neelima also highlighted Rajiv Gandhi’s efforts to strengthen the Panchayati Raj system, promote rural development and focus on education, women, youth and the welfare of disadvantaged sections. She said the Sadbhavana March conveyed the message that people should rise above caste, religion, region and language and work together for a united and harmonious society.
