Record paddy procurement in Telangana

20-12-2025 12:00:00 AM

The state government has carried out a record procurement of 58 lakh metric tonnes of paddy so far. The Civil Supplies Department has set up 8443 procurement centers across the state with a target of procuring 80 lakh metric tonnes of paddy this season and so far 77.33% of the process has been completed. During the monsoon season, paddy has been cultivated in 65.69 lakh acres and the government has estimated a paddy production of 159.15 lakh metric tonnes.

The government planned to procure 75 lakh metric tonnes initially. However, with the rice being distributed through ration shops, an  additional 5 LMT has been procured. Separate centers have been set up for the fine and coarse varieties of grain. Procurement centers have been allotted to PACS, IKP and others. The government has kept a target of procuring 65.87 lakh tones upto December and it will be achieved with the procurement of another 6 lakh tones.

The money is deposited in the farmers' accounts within a week of the purchase of the grain. So far, payments to the tune of Rs. 12,684 crore have been made. Similarly, a bonus of Rs 500 will also be credited to the bank accounts of the farmers within 10 days of procurement. Earlier there was a lot of criticism from the farmers that bonus was not being credited on time. Keeping in view the past experience, the government is taking care that this situation does not arise in the case of bonuses.

With a bonus of Rs 500 being paid per quintal, many middlemen brought fine paddy from the neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka and tried to sell it here. The grain was brought from Guntur, Kurnool and Krishna districts of Andhra Pradesh at night and sold at the purchase centers in the border districts of Telangana. The government has set up a strict vigil and prevented the arrival of pulses from other states into Telangana.

In AP, the support price for the common variety is Rs 2,369 per quinal and Rs 2389  for Grade 'A' type. There is no bonus scheme in AP. An attempt was made to bring a large amount of grain into Telangana for the bonus of Rs 500, but the concerned department officials prevented it.

Closure of procurement centers in 12 districts

The procurement of paddy has been completed in most of the regions. Procurement centers have also been closed in 12 districts. The procurement of paddy initially started in Nizamabad, Medak, Rajanna Sircilla, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Narayanpet, Siddipet, Karimnagar, Jangaon, Mahabubnagar, Mancherial, Sangareddy and Jagityal districts . The procurement centers in these districts have been closed after the procurement of paddy has been completed.
