Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) General Secretary RS Praveen Kumar has demanded a comprehensive investigation into the damage to the Medigadda Barrage, alleging that the incident was a deliberate act of blasting and calling for the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to uncover the truth. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), tagging the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) and other police officials, Praveen Kumar questioned the government's decision to constitute an SIT into the phone-tapping controversy instead of investigating what he described as a conspiracy behind the alleged blasting of the Medigadda Barrage.
Drawing a comparison with the telephone-tapping issue, Praveen Kumar said that phone interception was permitted under certain circumstances in accordance with legal provisions. He also alleged that the present Revanth Reddy-led government was engaging in phone tapping. He argued that such surveillance did not directly endanger public lives and could, in certain cases, help prevent crimes and protect public safety. In contrast, he warned that blasting structures such as the Medigadda Barrage could threaten people living in downstream areas and severely disrupt irrigation and drinking water supplies.
He further cautioned that a shortage of irrigation water could lead to crops drying up, mounting financial losses for farmers and even circumstances that could drive them to suicide. Restoring damaged irrigation projects, he added, would require public expenditure running into hundreds or thousands of crores of rupees. He criticized the present government, alleging that no new irrigation project had been constructed since Revanth Reddy assumed office as Chief Minister.
He also referred to allegations of corruption against the current government, claiming that several people had pointed to evidence behind accusations that nearly Rs 50,000 crore had been amassed through corrupt practices. Praveen Kumar urged the police to conduct an impartial investigation into the Medigadda incident, setting aside political considerations, and establish the facts behind the damage and identify those responsible. He insisted that the authorities should prioritize determining the cause of the damage to the barrage and fixing accountability rather than focusing primarily on the telephone-tapping controversy. Questioning who should be held responsible for Telangana's present situation, he demanded that the government provide answers to the public.
