Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to initiate the process for elections to recognized unions in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) after consultations with the election officer, indicating that the poll schedule will be announced shortly.
During a review meeting on RTC performance at the Secretariat on Thursday, the minister said the government has procured 2,815 new buses worth Rs 1,078 crore between 2023 and 2026 and sanctioned new depots at Eturunagaram and Peddapalli.
He announced implementation of 11% fitment under RPS-2021 from July 1, fulfilling a key assurance given during the RTC strike.
The minister said compassionate appointments were provided to 1,137 dependents and instructed officials to expedite pending cases and complete welfare-related processes.
He noted arrears under CSS PF schemes have reduced, with CSS arrears down from Rs 1,096.90 crore to Rs 862 crore and PF arrears from Rs 2,018.15 crore to Rs 1,714.39 crore. SRBS and SBT arrears were reduced by Rs 493.02 crore. Officials informed that TGSRTC operates 10,173 buses, employs 38,128 staff, covers 35 lakh km daily and serves about 61 lakh passengers.
The minister also directed a special meeting with transport ministers of southern states to discuss EV policy, pollution control and expansion of electric buses, and asked officials to expedite land transfers for bus station development.
