Speakers at an awareness seminar in Domakonda stressed that sarpanches play a crucial role in driving village development and strengthening rural communities. The programme, organised by Telangana University South Campus and Domakonda Fort Village Development Trust on Tuesday, focused on the theme “Role of Sarpanches in Village Development” and was held in connection with National Panchayati Raj Day.
Telangana University Vice-Chancellor Prof. T. Yadagiri Rao, who attended as chief guest, said the nation’s progress depends on the development of its villages. He urged sarpanches to create alternative livelihood opportunities to prevent migration caused by lack of facilities in rural areas. He also called for effective implementation of welfare schemes so that every eligible beneficiary receives support.
NIRDPR scientist Dr. M.V. Ravibabu highlighted the need for sarpanches to adopt digital technology. He advised local leaders to make use of Artificial Intelligence and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for agricultural development and better resource management.
District Library Organisation Chairman Maddi Chandrakant Reddy said serving the public should be considered a privilege. NGO founder Balaprasad stressed the importance of focusing on youth, education, farming, and environmental protection in village development plans.
Experts at the seminar also discussed transparent governance, financial accountability, and efficient use of government schemes. Domakonda Sarpanch Ireni Narasayya said such awareness programmes were highly beneficial for elected village leaders.
