South Central Railway (SCR) has registered the highest ever revenue of Rs 20,452 crore, backed by the excellent performance in both freight and passenger segments. This is also Rs 117 crore more than the previous best of Rs 20,335 crore achieved in 2023-24, followed by Rs 18,973 crore registered during 2022-23.
One of the major factors for this achievement is the major thrust given by the Zone towards the freight segment. Giving a special focus on the enhancement of freight services, the Zone intensifies its efforts on diversifying the traffic streams and improving the existing commodity baskets through customer-centric initiatives.
This included the development of freight infrastructure, ensuring the availability of wagons, monitoring the path and movement of freight trains, and improving the work atmosphere in goods sheds. These efforts combined with policy initiatives introduced time to time culminated in SCR achieving its highest-ever originating loading of 144.10 MTs and highest ever freight revenue of Rs 13,825 crore, representing a historic milestone for the Zone.
Another significant factor contributing to the record originating earnings was the big push given to the passenger segment. The Zone adopted the strategy of continuous monitoring of passenger demand across various directions so as to introduce new trains, special trains wherever necessary and also augment the existing trains having demand by attaching extra coaches.
During FY 2024-25, around 3,500 special trains were run, more than 10,000 extra coaches were attached to different express trains to meet higher passenger demand. These initiatives led to the Zone achieving Rs 5,710 Crores of Originating Passenger revenue. The Zone has carried 263.2 millions of Originating Passengers during 2024-25 compared to 262.5 millions during 2023-24.
SCR has also attained its best-ever revenue of Rs 513.6 crore in other coaching segments during the year 2024-25. This includes parcel Revenue, Ticket Checking Revenue etc. The zone has also registered Rs 402.7 crores in Sundry earnings like Parking, Catering and Advertisements. Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR commended the efforts of his team of officers and staff for this stupendous achievement.
