Sean 'Diddy' Combs was sentenced Friday in New York to four years and two months in federal prison for transporting people across state lines for sexual encounters, a verdict that caps a sordid case against the hip-hop titan.
Combs, 55, was convicted of flying girlfriends and male sex workers across the country for drug-fueled sexual activity over several years. While acquitted of more severe sex trafficking and racketeering charges, U S District Judge Arun Subramanian imposed a $500,000 fine.
Considering time already served, Combs could be released in about three years. The judge praised the victims who testified, stating, “You gave them a voice. You stood up to power.” Combs, who wept while pleading for leniency, told the court, "I ask your honour for a chance to be a father again." His lawyers plan to appeal the sentence. Prosecutors had sought a much longer sentence, arguing Combs' power enabled years of "disgusting, shameful" abuse.
