Following the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) directive, Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy has issued show cause notices to 13 Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs) that have been inactive for over six years.

As per Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, political parties must participate in elections to remain registered. These 13 parties have not contested any general, assembly, or by-elections during this period, indicating non-compliance.

The ECI intends to remove these inactive RUPPs from its registry. Before proceeding, the parties have been asked to submit a written explanation, supporting documents, and an affidavit from the party president or general secretary by July 11, 2025. A hearing is scheduled for July 15, where party representatives must be present. Failure to respond or appear will lead to further action under ECI guidelines.

The parties served notices include Telangana Karmika Raithu Rajyam Party, Indian Minorities Political Party, Jago Party, Bahujan Samaj Party (Ambedkar-Phule), and others. This move aims to ensure only active, participating political entities remain registered under the law.
