Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is set to sign two key agreements on December 18 with the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (IPICOL) to establish mega power projects in the state, SCCL Chairman and MD N. Balaram announced.
The first project involves setting up a 2,400 MW ultra supercritical thermal power plant (3x800 MW) linked to SCCL’s Naini coal block in Odisha. The plant will use coal produced from the Naini block, ensuring efficient captive consumption while benefiting both SCCL and the state.
Alongside thermal power, SCCL is planning large-scale green energy initiatives. The second agreement will focus on renewable energy projects totaling 2,500 MW, including 1,000 MW of solar power, 500 MW of floating solar, 500 MW of wind energy, and 500 MW of pumped storage power.
Officials from IPICOL said these agreements would enable close collaboration with SCCL to meet Odisha’s growing electricity demand while supporting the state’s development and clean energy goals. The signing ceremony will take place in the presence of senior officials from both sides on December 18.
These initiatives mark a major step in SCCL’s expansion into renewable energy and strengthen its role in supporting Odisha’s power infrastructure. By combining thermal and green energy projects, the company aims to ensure sustainable growth and energy security for the state in the years ahead.
