Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced a decisive breakthrough in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel project, as excavation work successfully crossed a major geological shear zone.
The accomplishment paves the way for deploying additional equipment and boosting operational efficiency while maintaining stringent safety standards. Reviewing key irrigation projects across the erstwhile Nalgonda district in a marathon meeting with elected representatives and senior officials at the Secretariat on Sunday.

Highlighting the project’s vital role for the region, Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that the SLBC tunnel will deliver over 30 TMC of water to upland areas, bringing long-awaited relief to perennial water scarcity. He instructed officials to deploy additional machinery, optimise excavation cycles, and maintain strict safety protocols to ensure water delivery by the June 2028 deadline.
