The South Central Railway (SCR) on Wednesday launched a next-generation Rail Parcel Application, a first-of-its-kind digital e-marketplace on Indian Railways offering seamless doorstep-to-doorstep parcel services. The app was unveiled at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad by General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava during a conclave on ‘Rail Parcel Logistics’.

Describing it as a major step in digital transformation, Srivastava said the app brings the parcel office to customers’ smartphones, eliminating paperwork and queues. Designed to make parcel booking as simple as booking a taxi, it promises faster movement, enhanced transparency and improved customer convenience.

Key features include end-to-end integrated booking, real-time tracking, automated status notifications, transparent logistics service provider selection with charges and ratings, and secure digital payments via cards, net banking and UPI.

The app is being piloted in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru and Chennai.

On the occasion, SCR signed an MoU with Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) to undertake a comprehensive study of the freight logistics market. Through its Centre of Excellence in Supply Chain Management, IIMB will conduct demand forecasting, modal competitiveness analysis, industry consultations and infrastructure gap assessments, and prepare a strategic roadmap to boost freight growth and support Mission 3000 Million Tonnes by 2030.
