Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said in the assembly on Monday that soon after coming to power, the NDA government paid special attention to the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and to expose corruption in it.

Responding to the comments of some of the members that the scheme turned out to be a political employment guarantee scheme, Pawan Kalyan responded saying that it happened in the previous government and not in the NDA government. He mentioned that after taking charge as the Minister for Panchayati Raj, the first focus was on irregularities in the employment guarantee scheme. 

He said the decisions taken by the previous government had created difficulties, but special attention was paid to social audit, vigilance cell and quality control. He said that the person who was supposed to ensure that there were no irregularities in the employment guarantee scheme was found guilty of corruption and he was removed. He assured that the government is checking whether the master lists are correct or not with state-level flying squads.
