Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Sadanand Saraswati, the head of the Western Peeth (Pashchimamnaya) of Shri Dwarka Sharada Peeth in Gujarat, has called for the strict preservation of religious traditions and transparency in the administration of temples, emphasizing that donations made by devotees should be utilized solely for religious and public welfare activities.

In a statement issued from Shri Kailash Dham in Shankaracharya Nagar, Kheda, the seer said contributions received at temples should be spent on activities such as the maintenance of cow shelters (gaushalas), yajna halls, charitable hospitals, Sanskrit education, religious propagation and other welfare initiatives in accordance with Sanatana Dharma.

The Shankaracharya said every temple has its own ancient customs and traditions, and these should not be altered under social or external pressure. Swami Sadanand Saraswati reiterated  that scriptures make it clear that deities and scriptural injunctions are inseparable, and therefore temple customs and religious practices must be upheld without deviation.
