Swatantrata Center, a public policy think tank working toward sustainable economic advancement, appealed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday to operationalize the 24/7 open market policy across Hyderabad and extend business operating hours until 2 AM in major tier-2 cities of Telangana.
This petition reinforces the earlier representation made on July 12, 2024, and refers to G.O. Ms. No. 04 (LET&F Department, April 4, 2023), calling for immediate implementation aligned with the “Telangana Rising” vision—targeting a $1 trillion economy by 2035 and $3 trillion by 2047.
Speaking to the press, Raghavendar Askani, Co-founder & Director, Swatantrata Center mentioned that 24/7 business ecosystem is not merely an economic reform but a structural transformation that will help Telangana create lakhs of jobs and opportunities. While recalling that government already has a clear framework through G.O. 04, he added that is needed now is timely execution to unlock massive growth for Hyderabad and our tier-2 cities.”
He outlined some of the key gains for Hyderabad by the proposed 24/7 operations. These include targeting a $215 billion GDP by 2035, generating 350,000–400,000 new jobs across retail, hospitality, transport, security, and IT sectors attracting “China Plus One” investments, strengthening key activities such as tourism around Charminar, IT support in the western corridor and pharma logistics in southern Hyderabad. The suggested roadmap included shifting to a compliance-based system with standardized processes, ensuring women’s safety through CCTV, grievance redressal apps, and enhanced police monitoring and protecting workers’ rights with weekly offs, overtime pay, and safe transport for women (with consent).
