‘T'gana per capita income higher than national average’

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday said the state's per capita income stood at over Rs four lakh in 2025-26, which is approximately 91 percent higher than the national average. In his Independence Day address after hoisting the National Flag at the historic Golconda Fort here, he said state government is working towards increasing the state's share of the national GDP to 10 percent.

At present, Telangana contributes five per cent to the national GDP though the state's population is only 2.50 per cent of the country's population, he said. Citing latest RBI statistics, he said our state's per capita income during 2025-26 financial year stands at Rs 4,18,931. "Telangana's per capita income is approximately 91 percent higher than the national average. This is a remarkable achievement that underscores the strength of our economy."

The state government has set a goal to transform Telangana into a USD one trillion economy by 2034 and a USD three trillion economy by 2047, he said.

Further, the Chief Minister said the state has emerged as one of the fastest-growing destinations in the country in data centers, cloud computing and AI. Currently, over 355 Global Capability Centers (GCCs) are operating in Hyderabad. In 2026 alone, 40 new Global Capability Centers were established in the city.

The state government is developing the 'Bharat Future City' on Hyderabad outskirts as the country's first net-zero smart city. It is being built as a world-class hub for AI, data centers, advanced manufacturing, research, innovation, and future technologies. All these initiatives will transform the face of the Telangana of tomorrow, he said. One of the country's largest hyperscale, AI-ready cloud infrastructure campuses is taking shape in the 'Bharat Future City' and Chandanvelly areas. Highlighting the state government's achievements in agriculture and other sectors, he said his government has spent nearly Rs 1.70 lakh crore on farming, farmer welfare over past 32 months. Telangana surpassed Punjab in paddy cultivation area and yield, emerging as the number one state in the country, Reddy said. According to him, the state government has set a new record in paddy procurement during the last Rabi season, procuring 81.12 Lakh Metric Tons of paddy.

On the welfare measures, Reddy said over 93 lakh families—comprising 3.38 crore people were brought under the ambit of the Public Distribution System. The Congress government issued over 15 lakh new ration cards and smart ration cards are being distributed across the state. This will enhance transparency and accountability in ration distribution by adopting new technology.

He claimed that the Centre decided to conduct caste census as part of general census due to the "pressure" caused by the caste survey conducted by the state government. For the welfare of workers, the state government approved the revision of minimum wages which has been pending for twelve years, he said.

Referring to the legislation passed by the government to take action against employees who neglect their parents in their old age, he appealed to senior citizens to approach district Collectors if their children do not take care of them. The government would deduct 15 per cent of their salaries of such employees and credit to the accounts of their parents, he warned. Reddy announced the launch of 'Praja Vani' citizen's grievance redressal system at the mandal level on August 17. The government would also introduce an online 'Praja Vani' portal, enabling the submission of grievances from any part of the state.

Pointing to the comprehensive plan launched by the government for the rejuvenation of the Musi river here, covering a stretch of 55 kilometres, he said 39 new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) are being built. The government is working on a plan to divert 2.5 TMC of fresh water from the Godavari River to the Musi, he said and urged those living along Musi to cooperate with the government for the implementation of the Musi rejuvenation plan. Referring to the 'China Plus One strategy' of businesses diversifying manufacturing and supply chains beyond China, the CM said the state government aims to make Telangana as the 'China Plus One' destination. Observing that the "world is searching for China Plus One", he said the state government's industrial plan is the answer to it.
