Revanth announces move to enact a new law ensuring govt staff take care of their aged parents, warning of 10 to 15 percent salary cuts for neglect
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy gave a heartfelt message to the newly appointed Group-2 officers on Friday, urging them to ensure that their parents and elders are well taken care of, as they begin their new chapter in government service.
Speaking at the Group-2 appointment letters distribution ceremony in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister said that many students and unemployed youth had made immense sacrifices for the formation of Telangana, and it was now time for the young officers to repay their debt to both society and their families.
“Your parents stood behind you through thick and thin, often struggling financially to help you reach where you are today. Now that you are officers, it’s your turn to stand by them. If any case of neglect towards parents comes to our notice, we will deduct 10 to 15 percent of your salary and deposit it directly into your parents’ bank accounts,” Revanth Reddy declared, adding that the Congress government was preparing legislation to make this a rule.
The Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary to include the newly appointed Group-2 officers—especially those posted in the Secretariat—in the committee that is drafting rules for the welfare of senior citizens. “If you are part of the rules-making process, you will be more accountable to ensure they are implemented in spirit,” he said.
Revanth Reddy reminded the officers that they were no longer ordinary citizens but government representatives with the power to change lives. He urged them to work in line with Telangana’s “Rising Telangana 2047 Vision Document” and to ensure that the state remains a model of progress and compassion in the country.
Highlighting the Congress government’s commitment to employment, the Chief Minister said that within the first year of coming to power, over 60,000 jobs had been filled, including Group-1 and Group-2 posts. “You are now partners in rebuilding Telangana,” he said, calling upon the officers to serve with empathy, integrity, and responsibility.
