The Telangana government plans to distribute 42,230 sewing machines across the state to support economic empowerment among Muslim women, Minority Welfare Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar announced. So far, 10,490 machines have been handed out, and the remaining units are expected to reach beneficiaries soon.
The distribution program was inaugurated in Rahmatnagar, Jubilee Hills, by Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar (Transport & BC Welfare) and Gaddam Vivek (Labour), alongside Minister Lakshman Kumar on Tuesday. “This initiative will help women achieve economic self-reliance and strengthen family security,” the minister said.
Under the Indiramma Minority Women Scheme, widows, divorced women, orphans, and single women receive one-time financial assistance of Rs 50,000. Additionally, the Revanth Anna Ka Sahara Scheme provides mopeds worth Rs 1 lakh to poor Muslim vendors and dairy workers.
Upcoming initiatives include toolkits for 1,500 Muslim artisans (Rs 15 crore), free laptops for 2,000 semi-orphaned graduates (Rs 10 crore), scooters for 1,250 poor minority girls (Rs 12.5 crore), tricycles for 1,000 differently-abled individuals (Rs 5 crore), and financial aid of Rs 2 lakh each for 1,000 MBBS, BDS, and law graduates. Goods carrier vehicles for 530 minority drivers (Rs 26.5 crore) are also planned.
For 2025–26, the government has allocated Rs 756 crore for minority welfare, including schemes benefiting Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsees.
