Parking has been temporarily suspended at parts of Secunderabad Railway Station as part of the ongoing redevelopment works being taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 714.73 crore. The measures have been introduced to ease congestion and ensure smooth vehicular movement while large-scale infrastructure upgrades are carried out within the station premises.
On the Platform No. 1 side, parking has been stopped entirely, with only pick-up and drop services being permitted. On the Platform No. 10 side, an Access Control System has been implemented to prevent unauthorised parking and vehicle blockage in the circulating area. Vehicles entering this zone are allowed free pick-up and drop for up to 15 minutes, after which overstay charges will be levied if they are not parked in authorised parking areas.
Railway officials said these steps are aimed at maintaining uninterrupted traffic flow and enhancing passenger convenience during the redevelopment phase. Despite the recent festival rush, works have been progressing on a war footing without affecting train services or passenger movement.
Adequate parking arrangements have been made in the underground basement on the Platform No. 10 side, with facilities for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. The basement parking can be used for boarding passengers, as well as for pick-up, drop and longer-duration parking.
The redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station is being executed in a phased and systematic manner, focusing on upgrading passenger amenities, strengthening station infrastructure and improving operational efficiency. Officials said the project is designed to deliver long-term benefits while ensuring safety and order within the station.
To assist passengers, clear directional signage, public address announcements and display boards have been installed at key locations across the station to guide movement and reduce confusion during the construction period.
