Citizens heading home for Dasara can skip the crowded bus stations this festive season. Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is offering special bus services that will pick up group of travellers directly from residential colonies, gated communities, townships, hostels and colleges.

The facility is available for groups of 30 or more passengers travelling together. With thousands of students, employees and families expected to leave Hyderabad for their native places during the Dasara holidays, the initiative is aimed at making the journey easier and convenient.

A senior official of TGSRTC said that if there is sufficient demand, we are ready to arrange a bus that will pick up the group of passengers from their locality. He added, “The idea is to make the travel hassle free. Travellers would not have to bother to haul the luggage all the way to the bus station.”

The TGSRTC is looking to target gated communities and townships. Many travel to the same destination and group bookings would help. It is observed that every year, a sizable population living in Hyderabad head to Andhra Pradesh for Dasara festival.

Students have also been brought under the scheme. Groups staying in hostels or studying at colleges can seek dedicated buses to their native places, eliminating the need to first travel to a bus station with their luggage.

The special services will be operated based on demand from different localities, giving groups an opportunity to organise a convenient, direct ride home for Dasara.

7,000 buses to be deployed for festival

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) will operate 7,000 special buses during Dasara festival, including 1,312 services from Greater Hyderabad zone. With the weekend round the corner, the corporation expects heavy rush on October 9,10, 16 and 17, similarly, return traffic on October 25 and 26.

From the city, special buses will run from busy areas such as MGBS, JBS, Aramgarh, LB Nagar X Roads, KPHB, Bowenpally and Gachibowli.

These special buses will be charged at 1.5 times the regular fare. However, free bus travel will continue as usual on Palle Velugu, Express, City, and Ordinary and Metro Express services during the festival. Advance reservations for TGSRTC buses can be booked via the corporation website.
