TGSRTC-Metro common pass fares to be reviewed

13-10-2026 12:00:00 AM

metro india news  I hyderabad : The Telangana government will review the fares of the recently introduced TGSRTC-Metro common passes following public complaints that they are expensive, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said on Monday. The government will reconsider the existing rates in consultation with senior officials, taking into account public opinion and suggestions made by Deputy Chief Minister M Bhatti Vikramarka, he said. The move comes amid concerns that the combined ticketing facility, intended to make commuting easier, could impose an additional financial burden on regular public transport users.

Under the current pricing structure, the daily common pass costs Rs.400, comprising Rs.300 for Metro Rail travel and Rs.100 for Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) services. The monthly pass is priced at Rs.8,500, of which Rs.7,000 covers Metro travel and Rs.1,500 is allocated to RTC services.

While the common pass is intended to offer commuters the convenience of using both Metro Rail and RTC buses under a single pass, the pricing has drawn criticism from passengers who feel that the fares need to be more affordable. Commuters relying on public transport for their daily journeys, particularly office-goers and other regular travellers, are among those likely to be affected by the cost of the combined facility.

Acknowledging the concerns, Ponnam said the government would examine the fare structure and explore ways to make the passes more affordable. The objective, he said, was to encourage more people to use public transport by making travel convenient and financially accessible.

The minister said the government had no intention of placing an additional burden on passengers. Officials would study the issue and consider suitable changes based on public feedback and the suggestions put forward by the Deputy Chief Minister.

A decision on revising the fares is expected after consultations with the concerned officials. The government aims to strike a balance between providing an integrated public transport facility and ensuring that its cost remains within the reach of commuters.

The proposed review could lead to changes in the existing daily and monthly pass rates, although no revised fares have been announced so far.

Last week TGSRTC slashed Pushpak Airport bus fares

Last week, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) announced a reduction by up to 40% on its Pushpak AC buses operating to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Hyderabad outskirts. The fare was increased in 2025 but due to low occupancy and operational costs, the RTC slashed the prices.
