Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock urges Hollywood to embrace AI creatively, while staying cautious against its misuse and harmful intent

Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock thinks Hollywood should be more open to using artificial intelligence in a “really constructive and creative” manner and thinks there is a place for such technology in the industry. Reacting to fans’ AI-generated trailers of her upcoming film Practical Magic 2, Bullock said the industry needs to learn how to use the technology as its friend. “Well, there could be worse with my image. Sorry...But it’s here. We have to observe it. We have to understand it. We have to lean into it. We have to use it in a really constructive and creative way, make it our friend,” she said at the CNBC Changemakers Summit,  according to the entertainment news outlet Deadline.

The actor emphasised that it can be used in a negative manner, so it’s important to ensure its rightful usage. “We have to be incredibly cautious and aware of it because there are people who will use it for evil and not good. I do feel that there’s a place for it,” she said.

 AI debate rocks Hollywood

The debates around the usage of AI in the film industry have been ongoing over the last few years, with some celebrities expressing their disappointment over its use, while others speaking on its usefulness. Celebrities such as Scarlett Johansson, Ben Stiller, Mark Ruffalo, and Cate Blanchett have even signed campaigns like “Stealing Isn’t Innovation” to combat unauthorised AI training on human work.
