Dino Morea, who stars as the eccentric and unpredictable Salaudin in Netflix’s newly released series The Royals, has opened up about his experience playing the character—one he describes as closely resembling his real-life persona. Speaking about the role, Morea said, “It was a fun ride. Fantastic. I had a great time shooting—I had a laugh on set! I just want to say thank you for giving me this opportunity.”

Reflecting on his portrayal, he added, “I was kind of playing myself. This is me in real life—I like fun, I love fun, I want to have fun! And I was definitely having fun with this character.” Calling Salaudin “whacky,” Dino drew clear parallels between himself and the character. “Salaudin is a whacky guy. And honestly, on a normal day, I’m also whacky. That made this role even more enjoyable,” he said.

The Royals, which premiered on Netflix last week, is already drawing attention for its vibrant storytelling and stellar ensemble cast, which includes Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar, Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, and Nora Fatehi. Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, the series is set in the fictional royal city of Morpur and blends romance, drama, tradition, and modernity in equal measure.
