The dairy sector in Telangana received a major boost as IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu laid the foundation stone for Sabar Dairy’s (Amul) Rs 400-crore Mega Integrated Dairy Plant at the Urja Industrial Park in Toopran, Medak district. The state-of-the-art facility will start with an initial milk processing capacity of 5 lakh litres per day (LLPD) and is set to directly benefit nearly 10,000 local dairy farmers while creating approximately 350 direct jobs.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony on Sunday, Sridhar Babu highlighted the project as a critical milestone for the state's agriculture and allied sectors. "Telangana has a substantial base of dairy farmers and families reliant on milk production. This integrated facility will strengthen the linkages between rural producers, organized procurement networks, modern processing systems, and urban markets," he said.
Sabar Dairy, which entered the Telangana market in 2015, currently procures over 1 lakh litres of milk daily from local farmers. The upcoming integrated unit will manufacture a wide product portfolio, including packaged milk, curd, paneer, ice cream, lassi, ghee, buttermilk, and bakery items, ensuring higher value addition for farm produce.
The Minister noted that the project underscores rising investor confidence in the state's industrial policy under the 'Invest Telangana' and 'Telangana Rising–2047' vision. Emphasising the strength of the cooperative framework, he added that under the farmer-centric Amul model, up to 80% of every rupee spent by consumers flows directly back to milk producers. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Telangana Minister Dr G. Vivek Venkataswamy, Medak MP Raghunandan Rao and other elected representatives were also present in the programme.
