Telangana’s tourism sector has received a major boost with ₹15,000 crore in investments across 31 projects under the new Tourism Policy (2025–2030). Against this backdrop, the FTCCI Tourism Committee, in collaboration with Telangana Tourism, NITHM, Incredible India, Ramoji Film City, and leading resort groups, hosted India’s first conference on “Building the Weekend Tourism Economy” at NITHM, Gachibowli.

The event brought together resort owners, tourism professionals, academicians, and students. Inaugurating the conference, TGTDC Managing Director Ms. Valluru Kranthi emphasized the rising demand for weekend travel among Hyderabad’s one million IT professionals and called for identifying at least 150 potential weekend getaways. She highlighted the rapid investor response to Telangana’s tourism policy and the development of nine tourism clusters, expanding later to 27.

Delivering the keynote, Special Chief Secretary (Tourism) Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, noted that nearly 2.5 million employees in IT and Life Sciences seek short breaks, making weekend tourism one of the state’s strongest growth areas. He encouraged the industry to leverage new policy incentives and create layered experiences involving crafts, cuisine, culture, and history.

Key discussions covered eco-tourism, screen tourism, heritage short breaks, and micro-travel trends. An MoU was signed to train rural women in wedding planning, and a rejuvenated lake at the NITHM campus was inaugurated.

FTCCI leaders stressed positioning Hyderabad as India’s Weekend Tourism Capital, noting over 460 getaway options within 200 km. With participation from 150+ delegates, the conference underlined weekend tourism as a transformative economic model capable of boosting rural livelihoods, supporting wellness, and diversifying tourism year-round.
