Beijing: Nepal wants to strengthen its relations with both India and China, Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal (L) said after concluding a four-day visit to Beijing. Khanal held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other senior leaders. His Beijing visit followed a trip to India, where he had said Nepal would accord the highest priority to ties with New Delhi.
If the visits were aimed at balancing ties between Nepal’s neighbours, Khanal said both countries were vital partners for Nepal. “My visit was to indicate the importance we give to both countries. We want to build on our existing relations and make it stronger, better and deeper,” he told the Global Times.
Following talks with Wang, Khanal said discussions covered connectivity, border management, trade, technology transfer and multilateral cooperation. He reiterated Nepal’s commitment to the one-China policy and hoped for deeper cooperation in infrastructure and connectivity. Khanal discussed the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network, including a proposed cross-border railway project. —PTI
