A 45-year-old Ranga Reddy, petrol pump worker suffering from chronic kidney disease caused by uncontrolled high blood pressure, received a new lease of life through a groundbreaking robotic kidney transplant at Kamineni Hospitals in LB Nagar. This procedure marks the first-ever kidney transplant using the CMR surgical robot, not only at Kamineni but globally.
Senior Consultant Urologist and Robotic Surgeon Dr. V Suryaprakash explained, ‘Ranga’s kidneys were completely damaged due to prolonged hypertension. He had been on dialysis and registered with Jeevandhan, the state organ donation program. When a compatible kidney became available, we performed a robot-assisted transplant instead of traditional open surgery. The robotic system allowed precise, minimally invasive surgery, reducing complications, blood loss, and recovery time.’
Senior Consultant Nephrologist Dr. A Santosh Kumar added, ‘High blood pressure silently damages organs. Robotic transplants allow patients to walk the next day and leave the hospital in five days versus over 10 days with open surgery.’
