The Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday clarified that the government is drawing Godavari waters for Hyderabad drinking water needs from the Sripada Yellampalli project and not from Mallanna Sagar as being claimed by some. He said that misleading propaganda is being spread by those who failed to address the city’s water and pollution challenges during their 10 years in power.

The Chief Minister laid the foundation for Godavari Phase 2 and 3 projects at Gandipet and inaugurated the Neopolis Trumpet Interchange at Kokapet. He also launched 16 reservoirs built under the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board and performed bhoomi puja for the Neopolis Water Supply & Sewerage Project.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the historic perspective of Hyderabad’s drinking water initiatives: In 1908, after devastating floods, the Nizam government constructed Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar to protect Hyderabad and supply drinking water.

In 1965, the then Congress government brought water from the Manjira River. In 2002, Congress ensured Krishna waters reached Hyderabad in three phases, solving the city’s drinking water crisis, CM states.

Congress governments also initiated the Godavari water projects, but those (indirectly referring to BRS leaders), who poured the water over their heads to show off, did not solve the real problems, he allegedly.

The CM reiterated that the Congress government is once again taking up the responsibility to bring 20 TMC of Godavari water to Hyderabad—of which 16 TMC will be dedicated to drinking water supply for the city and 4 TMC will be released into Musi to rejuvenate the river while filling up tanks along the course.

He reminded that Nalgonda has been suffering due to the polluted Musi river, and he had promised to clean and rejuvenate it. “If Ganga, Yamuna, and Sabarmati rivers can be cleaned, why not the Musi? Why was this not done by those who ruled for ten years?” he asked.

He also recalled that the Pranahita-Chevella project, started by former CM Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to provide irrigation to Chevella, Tandur, and Parigi, was dismantled due to selfish motives of the previous rulers. “If Tummidihatti had been completed, Adilabad and Ranga Reddy farmers would have had water today,” he said.

The Chief Minister declared that Hyderabad will be developed as a world-class city and called upon all sections of society to join hands in the city’s progress. “This is Indiramma Rajyam – a people’s government that ensures justice for the poor,” he asserted.

He announced that the government will unveil the Telangana Rising–2047 Vision Document on December 9, dedicating it to the people of Telangana as a roadmap for the state’s long-term development.

The launch and foundation events were attended by Ministers Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, and Vivek Venkatswamy, Legislative Council Chief Whip Patnam Mahender Reddy, CM’s Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, MLAs, MLCs, and Chairpersons of various corporations.
