Nehru Zoological Park has geared up for winter seasons and necessary arrangements are being carried out in the interest of the wild animal's health and also to safeguard animals from seasonal changes .J.Vasantha, Curator is monitoring the overall arrangement and instructed the concern officers to keep constant vigil on the health of the Wild animals. Heaters are arranged based on species in all night houses of carnivores, primates and bears.
Night houses of primates are being covered with green shade net to avoid cold waves. Similarly night houses of carnivores are covered with gunny cloths to avoid cold waves and to protect them from pneumonia disease. Night houses of birds are covered upto 75% roof level with green shade net or gunny roll to protect them from cold waves. Heaters are being arranged in night houses of cats, enclosures of primates, bears and covered with gunny roll to protect from cold waves.
Birds night houses are provided with nest boxes with insulated material in it ( Macaws and Cockatoos).Night houses of small monkeys like squirrel monkey, marmoset and giant squirrel are provided with small wooden boxes along with dry paddy straw and the enclosure is partially covered with gunny roll to avoid cold waves in the night time.
Night houses of reptile house are provided with dry leaves, 100 watts clear bulbs, small clay pots and dens to protect them from cold winds. Outside premises of mouse, deer, animal house in breeding center are covered with green shade net and also provided dry paddy straw, wooden hides and gampas in each animal night house to protect from winter waves.
Night houses of Zebra enclosure is covered with gunny rolls to avoid injuries to zebras. Partial closure with gunny roll at roof level is covered in vulture enclosure. Neem leaves are burnt in Elephant Moat and in Giraffe night houses to avoid mosquitoes and winter waves. Air condition is stopped in nocturnal animal house for 3.5 months.(November 2025 to Mid February 2026).
