In his Mann Ki Baat broadcast on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the women from Sangareddy. He commended them for their innovative use of drones in farming and referred to them as 'sky warriors' rather than just drone operators.
"In Sangareddy district of Telangana, women had to depend on others till some time ago. Today those women are completing the work of spraying pesticides on 50 acres of land with the help of drones. Three hours in the morning, two hours in the evening and the work is done. Neither the scorching sun, nor the danger of poisonous chemicals. The villagers have also accepted this change wholeheartedly. Now these women are not known as 'drone operators' but as 'sky warriors'," Narendra Modi said.
The Prime Minister stated that these women have been trained as drone operators and are using drones for spraying pesticides on orchards and other purposes. "The women are telling the people that change comes when technology and determination go together," he added.
It may be recalled that 53 women were taught on drone controls, flying regulations and altitude management and the nitty-gritty of spraying fertilisers and pesticides in Jogipet. Women now pilot drones with ease and can cover 50 acres in five hours without breaking a sweat.
