A major public health concern has surfaced  recently in Andhra Pradesh’s Rajamahendravaram after several residents fell seriously ill following the consumption of allegedly adulterated milk, with medical investigations revealing alarming signs of toxic contamination capable of causing kidney failure. The State Medical and Health Department on Monday issued a detailed health bulletin outlining the severity of the situation and the ongoing emergency response.

According to health officials, blood tests conducted on affected individuals showed abnormally high levels of urea and serum creatinine, indicating severe stress on kidney function. Doctors stated that such elevated levels are medically significant and could lead to acute renal failure if not treated promptly. Preliminary epidemiological analysis suggests that the illnesses were triggered by toxic substances mixed into the milk supply.

Authorities traced the contaminated milk to Varalakshmi Milk Dairy located in Narasapuram village under Korukonda mandal. Initial investigations revealed that milk from the dairy had been supplied to nearly 106 households before the issue came to light. Following the findings, officials immediately suspended milk distribution from the facility and sealed the dairy unit as part of precautionary measures.

At present, 15 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals, with 11 of them placed on ventilator support due to critical health conditions. Medical teams are providing intensive care while specialists continue monitoring organ function and administering supportive treatment.

Health authorities described the incident as a serious food safety violation and have launched a comprehensive probe to identify the exact adulterants used and fix responsibility. Samples collected from the dairy unit have been sent for advanced laboratory testing, and regulatory agencies are examining compliance with safety standards.

Officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspected cases of food adulteration. The government has assured stringent action against those responsible, stating that protecting public health and ensuring safe food supply remain top priorities as the investigation progresses.
