Alleged mushrooming of illegal constructions, govt revenue affected

Unauthorized constructions are allegedly proliferating across the Boduppal Circle under the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation. According to local residents, several types of building violations are occurring openly, including the construction of additional floors beyond approved plans, buildings without mandatory setbacks, commercial complexes being developed under residential permits, and the erection of sheds and shuttered structures without obtaining municipal approvals. Such violations are also said to be affecting the revenue that should otherwise accrue to the municipality through proper permissions and regulatory fees.

In the Ramakrishna Nagar Colony of Chengicherla Division, a large shed has reportedly been constructed without obtaining any permission from the municipality. Similarly, unauthorized constructions are allegedly continuing on Wakf Board land, with residents claiming that no action has been taken against the encroachments. Residents say these are only a few examples, and that numerous unauthorized constructions are underway across the Boduppal Circle.

They allege that while officials remain occupied with survey-related duties, violators are taking advantage of the situation to complete illegal structures without interruption. Several residents also point out that complaints about unauthorized constructions have been made in the past. However, they claim that municipal authorities have generally limited their response to issuing notices, without taking further action such as halting construction or demolishing illegal structures.

Urban planning experts warn that continued violations of building regulations could create serious long-term challenges, including increased traffic congestion, inadequate parking, poor drainage, and compromised fire safety. They caution that the construction of large buildings along narrow roads could also obstruct emergency services and pose risks to public safety. Residents have suggested that details related to building permissions, inspections, and enforcement actions be made publicly accessible to improve transparency and strengthen public confidence in the regulatory process.
