AP Contractors got Rs 82k Cr contracts’

BJP Legislative Party leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy on Thursday alleged large-scale irregularities in the allocation of government contracts in Telangana and demanded a comprehensive investigation into the dealings of the government.

Addressing a media conference, he claimed that out of nearly Rs 92,000 crore worth of works taken up after the Congress government came to power, contracts worth around Rs 82,000–82,500 crore were awarded to contractors from Andhra Pradesh. He alleged that these contractors were retaining 30–32 per cent of the project value and sub-contracting the remaining works to small contractors from Telangana.

Alleging irregularities in the proposed Young India Schools project, he claimed that works worth around Rs 5,000 crore related to nearly 200 schools were being given to a single Andhra-based contractor. Maheshwar Reddy also criticized the  Musi Riverfront project, alleging that tenders worth thousands of crores were being issued while the government claimed there were no funds for welfare schemes, farmers, employees, and students. He said the project’s expenditure had already reached around Rs 21,000 crore and demanded transparency in contract allocations.

He demanded a white paper on contractor payments, pending bills, tenders, and project allocations. Maheshwar Reddy also sought investigations into alleged irregularities in civil supplies, Singareni tenders, land dealings, shell companies and foreign visits by government officials. He said the BJP would continue to expose what it termed as irregularities in the Congress government.
