First HITHOC Procedure Successfully Performed at Sindhu Hospitals

New Lease of Life for Patient with Rare Stage IVA Thymoma

Hyderabad: Sindhu Hospitals has achieved another milestone in cancer treatment. The hospital successfully treated a 35-year-old patient suffering from rare Stage IVA Type-B thymoma (thymus gland cancer) by performing a state-of-the-art surgery using the Hyperthermic Intrathoracic Chemotherapy (HITHOC) procedure for the first time.

Although the disease had regressed somewhat following neoadjuvant chemotherapy, the patient had compromised lung function, and the cancer had spread across the entire left chest. In this challenging scenario, a thymectomy, left total pleurectomy, and segmental lung resection were performed, followed by a successful HITHOC procedure. The patient has now fully recovered and is being discharged in stable health.

Doctors from the Surgical Oncology department (led by Dr. K.V.V.N. Raju: Dr. Madhu Narayana, Dr. Faisal), the Anesthesia department (led by Dr. Venugopal: Dr. Shyam, Dr. Suresh Babu), and the Medical Oncology department (led by Dr. R.V. Rao: Dr. Arun, Dr. Soumika) stated that performing HITHOC—alongside a thymectomy and the complete removal of pleural disease—in selected patients with Stage IVA thymoma can achieve long-term disease control and, in some cases, even offer the possibility of a complete cure.
