Andhra Pradesh continued to record strong tax revenue growth in the first four months of 2026-27, with cumulative net GST collections rising 21% to Rs 13,283 crore, compared with ₹10,993 crore during the corresponding period last year. The growth is significantly higher than the national average of around 17%, according to data released by the State Commercial Taxes Department.
Total Commercial Taxes collections across GST, petroleum and liquor VAT, Profession Tax and other tax heads reached about Rs 20,465 crore during April-July 2026, against Rs 17,060 crore in the same period of 2025, registering growth of nearly 20%.
The momentum continued in July, when total Commercial Taxes revenue stood at Rs 5,105 crore, an increase of 14% over Rs 4,494 crore collected in July 2025. Net GST collections alone increased from Rs 2,930 crore to Rs 3,268 crore, recording 12% year-on-year growth. This marked the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year GST growth during the current financial year.
Petroleum VAT provided another major boost, rising 18% from Rs 1,427 crore to Rs 1,686 crore, while liquor VAT increased 10% to Rs 92 crore. Profession Tax collections rose around 13% to nearly Rs 50 crore. Officials attributed the improved performance to greater economic activity as well as stronger compliance, monitoring and enforcement. The State’s cumulative GST growth also compared favorably with several major southern States. Karnataka recorded growth of about 23.6%, Kerala 22.3%, Andhra Pradesh 21.4%, Telangana 19.8% and Tamil Nadu 18.5%. The national growth rate during the period was about 17%.
Officials said the figures indicate that Andhra Pradesh has maintained its revenue momentum despite GST rate rationalization measures. A significant contributor to July revenue was the Rs 1,993.83 crore IGST settlement received from the Centre, the third-highest monthly settlement recorded by Andhra Pradesh. The settlement was 17.04% higher than Rs 1,703.55 crore received in July 2025 and nearly 30% above the Rs 1,539 crore settlement recorded in July 2024. The department said improved identification and reversal of ineligible Integrated GST input tax credit has contributed substantially to higher settlements.
Officials said automated scrutiny has reduced manual review time by nearly 70%, enabling tax authorities to focus enforcement resources on high-risk cases. Real estate and construction, electrical machinery, mechanical equipment, iron and steel, bullion and jewellery were among the sectors supporting July’s growth. Chief Commissioner of State Tax A. Babu said the department would further expand AI-powered scrutiny, digital transaction analytics and inter-departmental verification during the remainder of 2026-27 as it works towards the State’s enhanced annual revenue target.
