Andhra Pradesh has taken a significant step towards strengthening its maritime sector, with plans to develop the Juvvaladinne project in Nellore district into a global hub for maritime robotics and autonomous shipbuilding. State Minister Anagani Satya Prasad announced that the project is envisioned as India’s first autonomous maritime shipyard, marking a major leap in technological advancement in the sector.

Highlighting the scale of investment, the Minister said the Juvvaladinne fishing harbour has already been developed at a cost of ₹288.80 crore. The next phase aims to transform the facility into a research and development centre focused on cutting-edge maritime technologies, including autonomous vessels and robotics-driven shipbuilding systems.

“The objective is to position Andhra Pradesh as a leader in next-generation maritime infrastructure. By integrating robotics and automation, Juvvaladinne will emerge as a key centre for innovation and industrial growth,” Satya Prasad said. He added that the project is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities, particularly for youth in technical and research domains. The initiative is also seen as a catalyst for attracting investments and fostering collaboration in emerging maritime technologies. The Minister also launched a sharp attack on the previous YSRCP government, alleging that it failed to complete even a single port or harbour project during its tenure.

He accused former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of attempting to create unnecessary controversy around the Juvvaladinne project due to political motives. “Despite neglecting fishermen’s interests during its tenure, the previous government is now trying to obstruct development initiatives. Such criticism is baseless and politically driven,” he said. Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Satya Prasad stated that the Juvvaladinne project would usher in transformative changes in Andhra Pradesh’s maritime economy, strengthening infrastructure while ensuring long-term benefits for coastal communities and the state’s industrial ecosystem.
