The Government of Andhra Pradesh is gearing up for the 16th round of National Deworming Day (NDD) on February 10, targeting over 1.12 crore children and adolescents aged 1-19 years across the state. Commissioner of Health, Medical, and Family Welfare G. Veerapandian launched the campaign by releasing NDD posters at APIIC, Mangalagiri, emphasizing its role in improving child health.

National Deworming Day, a flagship program of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India, aims to reduce Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) infections among children and adolescents. Andhra Pradesh currently has an STH prevalence rate of 34%, and this initiative is crucial in addressing the public health concern.

The deworming drive will be conducted across Anganwadi Centres and educational institutions, both government and private. Efforts will be made to mobilize out-of-school children to receive the Albendazole 400 mg chewable tablet, administered bi-annually. A Mop-Up Day (MUD) is scheduled for February 17 to cover those who missed the initial round. Anganwadi workers and school teachers will oversee the administration of the medication to ensure its safe and proper consumption.
